Synopsis
The magnificent finless porpoise has been guardians of the Yangtze River for thousands of years, but are now endangered and threatened by human activities. Jiang Ling, a fairy finless porpoise who can turn into a princess, is trying to save her clan by leading them to the legendary fantasy land. During her adventure, she forms a connection with a human boy through an ancient dance between humans and the magical animal.
Background Story
The surging Yangtze River and the clear Poyang Lake water meet at Stone Bell Mountain in Hukou, forming the spectacle of river and lake. The finless porpoise, known as the "giant panda in the water", has lived in this beautiful spectacle for 100,000 years. Currently, only 1,249 finless porpoises remain and they are facing extinction within 10 years.
With the theme of protecting the Yangtze River and the subject of smiling angel in the Yangtze River finless porpoise, the film “Dance with the Finless Porpoise” tells the folk legend that happened at Stone Bell Mountain, which is the intersection of Poyang Lake and the Yangtze River. The finless porpoise fairy transforms into a girl named Jiang Ling, who comes ashore to search for the missing little finless porpoise, Xiao Xiao. Lin Sheng, a young professional dancer, who returns to his hometown along the Yangtze River to search for the long lost Dance with the Wind. A conjoint search and an unexpected encounter connect two different worlds. As the search goes well, a sudden water tornado endangers the finless porpoise group. Should they leave for the legendary Yunmengze (Cloud Dream Lake) or stay to protect their homeland?
